"Kota Kinabalu Ferry Terminal"
Jesselton Point, formerly known as Kota Kinabalu Ferry Terminal was privatized in September 2006.
Since then, it has become one of the city’s most popular attractions as the gateway to Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park (Gaya, Manukan, Mamutik, Sapi, Sulug Island).
- The islands are part of the Crocker Range geologically, but sea levels rose after the last ice age, isolating them from the massif.
- The names of the islands are evocative of their early discoverers and history. Pulau Gaya ('large'), Manukan ('fish'), Mamutik ('shell collecting'), Sapi (the sound of a mowing buffalo), and Sulug (‘commemorating the ancestry of the Sulu peoples of Sabah’).
- Gaya and Sapi were the first two islands to be included in the park. The park was expanded in 1979 to include three additional islands: Manukan, Sulug, and Mamutik.
